Lose weight by eating fish
Monday, April 7th, 2008It is a known fact that seafood has a direct connection with weight loss. For instance- a survey carried out in 2004 stated that a diet rich in fish lessened both- blood levels due to leptin and body weight. Leptin is defined as a hormone that causes storage of body fat in the form of calories.
Some experiments have been carried out on mice- which have shown that DHA and EPA are present in sardines, tuna, sablefish, and salmon. DHA and EPA are the omega-3s having a chained structure. Hence, the people intending to lose weight have to go hunting for these fishes.
Fish oil has been tested on mice by the Czech researchers and some amazing results have been recorded. When the intake of DHA and FPA was increased to 12% (from 1%), there was an alarming reduction of weight gain caused due to high-fat. It also caused reduction of accretion of adipose, i.e. fat cells, in the abdomen, in particular. Thus, it reduced the risk of a heart attack. The foods containing DHA and EPA boosted the metabolism of glucose (sugar) and fat as well.
But, this is a slow process. Utmost patience is needed while following this diet. The human body always takes time to adapt to the changes. Similarly, the reprogramming of genes start very slowly, hence it takes time to give out positive results. Moreover, the intake of saturated fat and foods with a high content of carbohydrates and vegetable oils, and red meat should be reduced.
