Certainly everyone would agree with the fact that different regions have different eating habits. This in a way does influence the human body structure and certain body features. It is noticed and has been also proved that people that belong to the Asian region suffer comparatively lesser problems with digestion. It is also noticed that the rate of heart related problems is extremely less in the Mediterranean regions. This led to the conclusion that the eating habits do affect health related issues in a way. Researchers then had a detailed study on the eating habits of the people residing in the Mediterranean region and they eventually came up with the Mediterranean diet. This is how the diet as well derives its name.

The Mediterranean diet is not only a diet but also includes the basic healthy eating habits of the people residing in the region. It is based on a Mediterranean food pyramid guide. The intake of eggs is relatively very low in this region. Other meat products like poultry and fish is equally less in consumption. Hot beverages like wine and alcohol also do not constitute much to the regular diet. In spite of low intake of the above olive oil serves as a major source of monounsaturated fat. Fruits, cereals, nuts, vegetables and potatoes are consumed at a very high level. This diet definitely works with the people residing in that region since their way of life has much more physical activities than normal. This diet need not necessarily work with all provided the right guidance is considered before practicing this diet.
